In April 2009, an NGO-public partnership consisting of Fundatia pentru Sprijin Comunitar Bacau, Romania, and the Selbu municipality from Norway got a Norwegian Co-operation Programme grant of EUR 1 million + for the implementation of a project aimed at improving the extent and quality of rural health in eight villages in the county of Bacau (North-East Romania).

Children and the elderly are the main target group of the project.
Some seven months into the project, the following results have already been achieved:
· As many as 1349 children and 49 teachers have been informed about health care issues in relevant awareness-raising sessions
· 5 mother-and-baby corners have been established in medical facilities in the villages of Podu Turcului, Huruesti, Parincea, Stanisesti and Tatarasti
· 4 mobile care vehicles have been purchased in the benefit of the 8 rural communities, with as many as 629 villagers having benefited from mobility services by end-December 2009
· 1 multi-functional health care centre has been 95% rehabilitated in Motoseni
· Construction works have started on 1 home care resource centre in Bacau
· 8 home care teams for children and the elderly have been established, with as many as 250 service beneficiaries to date
This is the kind of project where people do not have the time to complain about difficulties in village life for they are too busy effecting small-scale but significant changes. It is expected that by the end of the project, more rural health care solutions will be identified based on Norwegian best practice.
