Memscap and Euromedica decided to join their knowledge and capabilities into the MEDICARE project, in order to increase capacity of sustainable production of medical devices in Romania. The MEDICARE project is divided into Research and Development, Investment and Training activities. In order to meet the overall objective, which is to significantly increase the production of disposable medical devices in Euromedica, its main focus is the design, production and qualification of new molding tools, membrane tools, new assembly lines and factory infrastructure for medical disposable products and finally to determine and qualify new sterilization supplier in Romania.

The expected result is to establish a state-of-the art production line for disposable articles for medical use at Euromedica, Romania. Establishing new sustainable production of all Memscap disposable medical devices in Euromedica, consequently will reduce the production cost per unit, reduce transport cost and logistic challenges in order to increase the production volume.

As tangible results to date, the following can be mentioned:

- Euromedica existing building was modified and adjusted to Memscap assembly lines for the short term capacity needs;

- Euromedica new building for future production volume expansion was started and is in progress;

- A new molding machine for the dome houses, last generation equipment purchased by Euromedica was installed early February;

- Designing of new molds for the domes is completed in Memscap. The molds arrived in Euromedica and extensive R&D activities with respect to various injection parameters have been initiated for 854 and 844 domes;

- The first silicone membrane molding tool was purchased by Euromedica. After few tests on Euromedica LSR machine, the mold has been temporarily shipped to Memscap for further technological assistance, tests and modifications;

- Training of operators for Memscap assembly lines started in Euromedica;

- Training of technician & operators for Memscap injection activities started in Euromedica;

- Nemko audit took place in Velfina (the only potential company to qualify for ETO sterilization in Romania), logistic arrangements and preparation of process validation started to be discussed.

MEDICARE project is on its course in Euromedica as well as in Memscap. Further details are available here: http://www.medicare.memscap.no/
