News from Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency

On 19 January 2010 an inaugural meeting of the Regional Excellence Program for safe nuclear energy took place in the premises of the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (www.bnra.bg).

The representatives of the Norwegian partner, namely the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) as well as of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant attended the meeting. The overall objective of the programme is to enhance the nuclear safety in Bulgaria. The programme is divided into four projects and covers such areas as safety culture assessment and enhancement, improvement of emergency preparedness and response arrangements in Bulgaria. Within the programme a joint emergency exercise at Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant will be performed.

On 20 January 2010 the first meeting of the project steering committee was conducted. The Steering Committee approved the revised time schedule and administrative procedures in relation to the project implementation and agreed on tangible indicators related to project performance.
