| Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, including Joint Implementation projects under the Kyoto protocol, and other emissions in air and water |
- Reduce air pollution, particularly prevent emissions of greenhouse gases. Improvement of technology and processes, capacity building, regulations and monitoring. Analysis of impacts of climate change and measures to adapt to climate change.
- Reduce and prevent pollution of water
- Waste management, waste water treatment and safe handling of hazardous substances
- Stimulate environmental technology
- Promote the environmental friendly urban transport.

- Promotion of energy efficiency within key sectors, e.g production, construction, households and transport
- Promotion of renewable energy
- Upgrading of energy systems and heating systems, including the use of combined heat and power
- Competency and capacity building, establishment of energy centres, networks and institutional cooperation
- Research, development and the development and demonstration of technology within the energy sector
- Cooperation in nuclear safety issues.
