In addition to the Norwegian Cooperation Programmes, projects in Bulgaria and Romania can also receive financial support through the EEA Grants scheme.

This programme is funded by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and makes available €72 million to projects and funds that contributes towards social and economic cohesion in Bulgaria and Romania. The EEA Grants scheme is administered by the Financial Mechanism Office (FMO) in Brussels.
Priority Sectors in EEA Grants
EEA Grants gives support to projects within the following priority sectors:
- Protection of the environment, including the human environment, through, inter alia, the reduction of pollution and the promotion of renewable energy
- Human resource development through, inter alia, promotion of education and training, strengthening of administrative or public service capacities of local government or its institutions and the democratic processes that support it
- Health and childcare
- Conservation of European cultural heritage
